Chromosome: 19 (NC_000019.10) Locus: NG_042193.1 (IFNL3)
HUGO Symbol: IFNL3 Full Name: interferon, lambda 3
Exons: 5 Introns: 4

Description:
The encoded protein is a member of the type III interferon (IFN) family, whose genes are clustered together on chromosome 19. Type III IFNs bind to a distinct class II cytokine receptor, the IFNλ receptor complex (IFNλR) that consists of a unique ligand-binding chain (IFNλRα) and an accesory chain (IL10Rβ) shared with cytokines of the IL10 family. IFNλR is restricted to epithelial cells and hepatocytes. Binding of the IFNλR activates the JAK-STAT signalling pathway and induces expression of IFN-stimulated genes, leading to an antiviral response. Polymorphisms in this gene associated with viral clearance prediction in β-thalassaemia patients.
