Chromosome: 6 (NC_000006.12) Locus: NG_041939.1 (CCND3)
HUGO Symbol: CCND3 Full Name: cyclin D3
Exons: 5 Introns: 4

Description:
This gene encodes cyclin D3, a member of the family of D-type cyclins with critical functions in cell cycle regulation. D-type cyclins are core components of the cell cycle apparatus and are induced by mitogen stimulation. D-cyclins form a complex with and function as a regulatory subunit of cyclin-dependent kinases CDK4 and CDK6. These D-cyclin/CDK complexes interact with and phosphorylate the retinoblastoma tumor suppressor protein (Rb) and Rb-related p107 and p130 proteins, resulting in the release of E3F transcription factors that promote cell cycle G1/S transition. Cyclin D3 plays a critical role in regulating the number of cell divisions during erythroid differentiation, thus controlling erythrocyte size and number. Deregulation of the CCND3 gene has been linked to cancers of haematopoietic origin.
