Common Name: COPE Type: Gene
Chromosome: 19 (NC_000019.10) Locus: NM_001330469.2 (COPE)
HUGO Symbol: COPE Full Name: coatomer protein complex subunit epsilon
Exons: 11 Introns: 10

Description:
The COPE gene encodes coatomer protein complex subunit epsilon, one of seven subunits (α, β, β', γ, δ, ε, ζ) comprising the coat protein complex I (COPI). COPI coats vesicles and mediates transport between the Golgi complex and endoplasmic reticulum. A variation in COPE associated with Hb F response to hydroxyurea (HU) in sickle cell disease cohorts. Components of the coat protein complex II (COPII) have been previously implicated in the regulation of γ-globin expression after HU treatment [see GeneID: 84 and 272].
