Description:
The RAVER1 gene encodes a ribonucleoprotein, which interacts with the splicing regulator polypyrimidine tract-binding protein (PTB/hbRNPI). The mouse protein contains 3 RNA recognition motifs, 2 nuclear localization signals, and a Rev-like nuclear export sequence. Like PTB, it is localised within perinuclear structures that are engaged in RNA metabolism. It is also localised at microfilament plasma membrane attachment sites in fibroblasts, epithelial cells, and muscle. It exhibits ubiquitous but varying expression. Genetic variance in RAVER1 gene associated with episodes of pain in patients with sickle cell disease.
