Description:
HLA-DOA (major histocompatibility complex, class II, DO alpha) and HLA-DPA1 (major histocompatibility complex, class II, DP alpha 1) genes belong to the HLA class II alpha chain paralogues. HLA-DOA forms a heterodimer with HLA-DOB, called HLA-DO, which is found in lysosomes in B cells and regulates HLA-DM-mediated peptide loading on MHC class II molecules. HLA-DPA1 is a heterodimer consisting of an alpha (DPA) and a beta (DPB) chain, both anchored in the membrane. It plays a central role in the immune system by presenting peptides derived from extracellular proteins. Genetic variance in the HLA-DOA-HLA-DPA1 intergenic region associated with haematological parameters (e.g., platelet count).
