Description:
The nuclear receptor corepressor-1 (NCoR1) is a member of the TRAC (thyroid hormone- and retinoic acid receptor-associated corepressor) gene family and functions as one of the main corepressors responsible for gene suppression mediated by nuclear hormone receptors. NCoR1 is a component of the DRED (direct repeat erythroid-definitive) repressor complex via direct binding to TR2 and TR4. It also binds to (and unites) enzymatic DRED corepressor subunits (e.g., DNMT1 and LSD1) that elicit DRED function. The DRED repressor complex mediates γ-globin gene suppression in definitive adult erythroid cells. In the β-globin locus, NCoR1 predominantly binds to LCR HS2 and its recruitment to the β-globin locus is maintained by the deubiquitinase BAP1 [GeneID: 470].
