Description:
MicroRNAs (miRNAs), such as MIR2355, are small, non-coding RNAs that play key roles in the post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression by targeting specific mRNAs. The miR-2355-5p sequence is a product of MIR2355. Functional studies showed that overexpression of miR-2355-5p in primary CD34+ HSPCs and HUDEP-2 cells correlates with an increase in γ-globin synthesis by suppressing KLF6 [GeneID: 481] expression. miR-2355-5p specifically binds the seed region in the 3'UTR of KLF6. The miR-2355-5p/KLF6 interaction is a candidate therapeutic strategy for the treatment of patients with beta-haemoglobinopathies.
