Description
The Hematology Department - Transplant Unit of the “George Papanikolaou” General Hospital of Thessaloniki was founded in 1985. The Department focuses on the study and treatment of malignant blood diseases, and particularly on the transplants of blood-producing cells of all types. The Hospital has been in operation since 1920; it was originally established to treat patients suffering from tuberculosis. Other specialized Departments were gradually added, until it became a General Hospital in the mid-1980s.
