Description:
ROS1 (c-ros oncogene 1) is a member of the tyrosine kinase insulin receptor gene family. The protein encoded by this gene is a type I integral membrane protein with tyrosine kinase activity. It is often described as an orphan receptor because the identity of its activating ligand, if any, is unknown. Rearrangements in ROS1 have been described in a variety of human malignancies. Sequence variation in ROS1 associated with disease severity in β-thalassaemia/HbE in spite of inconsistent reports of statistical significance.
