Description:
NF-E2 is a transcription factor that binds to the β-globin locus control region (LCR) hypersensitive site 2 (HS2) and with the β-globin gene promoter. It is a is a heterodimer composed of the haematopoietic specific subunit p45 and a ubiquitously expressed subunit p18 (small Maf protein). It plays a critical role in the regulation of erythroid and megakaryocytic maturation and differentiation. May play a role in all aspects of haemoglobin production from globin and heme synthesis to procurement of iron.
