Comments: Identified in an adult male in association with Hb E [IthaID: 88], with normal haematological indices. Haemoglobin analysis by capillary electrophoresis revealed Hb E at 17.4%, and two additional Hb variants at 21.7% and 6.2%. DNA sequencing revealed a normal α1-globin gene, whereas the α2-globin gene harboured a CGG (Arg) to CAG (Gln) substitution at codon 92, resulting in Hb J-Cape Town-A2 (or Hb J-Cape Town-Thailand).
